Winner English National Womens Teams 1986, but rarely plays bridge
now.
Secretary to the British Bridge League from 1984 - 1999
when the BBL devolved into its constituent Unions. Works for
the World Bridge Federation as General Liaison and Assistant
to the President, as well as organising the World, European, PABF
& ABF Simultaneous Pairs, plus many others both national and local, and doing the Systems Administration for
World and European Championships. Runs various events for charity and has raised over £200,000 in the past three years.
Does some administrative
work for the European Bridge League and maintains the EBU Website
Has special expertise in organising Simultaneous Pairs events
and with her business partner, Mark Newton of ECats
Ltd, has developed an online scoring system used for all
World, European and British events as well as for many other
smaller ones.
IBPA International Bridge Personality of
the Year 2000, the first woman to be awarded this honour.
Main hobbies: archaeology (preferably Neolithic, though the Picts are getting a look in these days!), photography (click here to go to my pages of pictures), walking (hills, mountains and big beaches preferred), a recently acquired interest in bird watching, reading, writing, cooking (and eating), music and
films,
theatre, travel - preferably to the Orkneys, red wine, parties and anything
else that seems interesting and fun to do at the time. The photos at the bottom of the page illustrate a couple of these hobbies!
Has 2 daughters - Vick, married to Nick, who teaches ballet and dance at her own dance school
in Suffolk, and Catherine (pictured with Anna above) who lives in Bristol with her partner Mark and works for the Charity Shelter;
1 granddaughter - Jasmine, Vick's daughter who is currently 11 (this is written
in 2006!) and the apple of her grandmother's eye; and 3 cats. Catherine's Mark (normally referred to as Marcus to distinguish him from the ECatsBridge Mark!) used to have a Harris Hawk called Meg, and we had a wonderful weekend flying her near Bristol last year.
Lives in an Old Railway Station in Suffolk, England
which she and Mark bought back in 1994, just after the World Championships
in Albuquerque.
Drives an Alfa Romeo 147, named Posy;
a 2 litre selespeed which is great fun to drive and very fleet
of foot!
Cheerful and optimistic disposition with a tendency to eccentricity.
Excellent computer skills. Hair normally dark-reddish but subject
to change without notice. Tall, brown eyes, short
sighted. A lot slimmer than she used to be!
Ambitions: to retire to a croft on the Orkneys; to own a large reptile - iguana preferred. To have time to study photography and learn to paint. To understand tide tables properly. To own a camper van and travel all over Britain in it (it would have to have a satellite dish for broadband though !).
Unusual experiences: well not that many really, but one which was a bit different was when I was asked to be "Father of the Bride" to a dear friend, "Mac" ... Mac was in deep trouble as she had so many male friends demanding to be "father" and she knew that many would be offended if she didn't choose them. So ... as a friend in need, I volunteered, and was happily accepted! It was a great day, and Mac's Wedding will remain in my memory as a truly memorable experience, as well as an extremely enjoyable one. It was, indeed TWOTY (The Wedding of the Year!)
 This is me in the oldest house in Northern Europe, on Papa Westray in the Orkneys. Dated at some 3,000 BC it is an amazing and magical place ...
 ... and this is me on a beach at a place rejoicing in the name of Melon Udrigle on the North West coast of Scotland - a place of great peace and beauty and one I was revisiting - the last time I was there was in 1963 !!
